We're home to the "town of Spectre" movie set from Tim Burton's classic "Big Fish"! Looking for a peaceful place to fish or picnic? Need a natural photography backdrop? Do you enjoy overnight camping in a serene location? Planning a big event and need to find the perfect venue? This relaxing paradise could be the perfect place for you! There is a ramp to launch your boat and it is also a beautiful place to kayak or canoe. You will find peaceful waters and also access to the Alabama River. Jackson Lake Island has everything you and your family need for some exciting outdoor activities. The cost for the entire day is $3.00 per person. Children 2 years old and under are free Camping overnight is $10.00 per person per night and $5.00 for children 10 years old and younger. Most of the time, we have a camera-monitored honor system for entry so bring the correct change. You will see instructions posted at the gate. We are open from daybreak until sunset. On busy days, the gate might be attended. We hope you will come and enjoy a day on the island.
Come as you are Apocalypse
3 day Camping Event April 5th through 7th
“THE COME AS YOU ARE APOCALYPSE” is the theme for the event in the southern town of Spectre which was built as a movie set (It has Never Been Torn Down!) This is just a couple night get together of like minded people in the prepping community and apocalyptic writers, readers and YouTube channel fans. When a mega disaster hits all you will have is your friends, your gear and your wits and that has been the opening scenario of many books and many real-life situations.
This event will allow us to go off grid a bit ( Both primitive and electrified camping sites available) and refresh and rejuvenate our nature sides and souls by learning how to communicate with others just sharing a mutual experience and camaraderie . We can talk preparedness plans, get inspiration for new books, hang out in a ghost town full of goats and share some campfire space and maybe an adult beverage or two.
The place has a FB page https://www.facebook.com/JacksonLakeIsland/ and Jackson Lake island will allow us to reserve the island if we have enough people. I have participated in a lot of these types of camping events and found it like herding cats to get commitments or folks pointed in one direction so we are going to do this the easy way for now so no one is frustrated or disappointed.
The normal way you camp here is you pay at the gate by putting your money in a envelope and dropping it in a box. Now if we get enough people committed, I can reserve space and pay the owner direct or you can appear or not and pay at the gate. Times are rough, schedules conflict etc. for many people so right now I am just getting a feel for whose coming and how many will show. The event will be held regardless of number of attendees and we are getting a good response so far, so later on if we get decent numbers we will see if we can block out and reserve some spaces.
There are a limited number of RV and water and electric hookup sites, there is one cottage and one tree house ( these two already spoken for)
